Even biggest skeptics are starting to believe a remake of the cult RPG is coming. Square Enix sends a clear wink to Final Fantasy IX fans
Square Enix is increasingly hinting that the iconic Final Fantasy IX will get a remake. After the company's latest suggestion, fans are no longer under illusion.

Rumors about a possible remake of Final Fantasy IX have been floating around online for several years now. Nonetheless, it was quite clear that any questions about it were met with denials from Square Enix representatives. Now that the 25th anniversary of the release of the iconic ninth installment is approaching, the company is beginning to hint that something is afoot after all.
The post published on X leaves no doubt. It contains a quote from FF IX from Vivi's letter to Zidane: "My memories will be part of the sky." While the game will turn 25 on July 7th, I don't plan to disclose what these words pertain to. As aptly put in the Square Enix post: "Those who know, know." Especially since the crying emoticon next to this sentence says more than necessary.

A quick look at the comments under this post is enough to grasp what it means for the fans - it acts as a sort of confirmation that the 25th anniversary celebrations will include a remake of Final Fantasy IX, or at least an announcement of it.
The cup of speculation is filled by the fact that over a week ago, Square Enix launched a website dedicated to the quarter-century of FF IX. The celebration kicks off on July 7, the game's "birthday," but you can already order related gadgets: glasses, a vinyl record, or a 44-page, richly illustrated book about Vivi's past (available on July 2).
Could it be that the rumored remake of Final Fantasy IX was to be announced on that day? Or maybe the announcement will happen earlier, for instance, on June 6th at the Summer Game Fest 2025? It seems unlikely that the game will be released at the same time - Square Enix will definitely release Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 first (potentially not until 2028).
Interestingly, the seventh installment was initially released on PlayStation across three CDs, while the ninth was on four. So it's not ruled out that the remake of the latter will turn out to be a tetralogy. Nonetheless, if it were as good as FF VII, it would surely attract many players - after all, the original and the updated version sold 8.9 million copies.
