Famous names cast by Denis Villeneuve in Dune
The cast of the new screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's cult Dune is growing. Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Dave Bautista are joined by Stellan Skarsgard, who will play Baron Harkonnen. The movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
The production of the new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s cult novel Diuna, announced at the end of 2016, is gaining momentum. We are currently at the stage of getting to know the names of the cast members. For now, we know that Timothee Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird) as Prince Paul Atryd, Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Fallout) as Lady Jessica and Dave Bautista (Guardians of Galaxy, Spectre) playing Rabban's Glossu will appear in the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, another well-known actor has recently joined the team. Stellan Skarsgard (Thor, Avengers, Breaking the Waves, Good Will Hunting) will play Baron Harkonnen, one of the black characters and uncle of the psychopathic Rabbian.
The Harkonnen family once ruled the desert planet Arrakis, also known as the Diuna. It is the source of the so-called melange, which provides a longer life and enables space travel and anticipation of the future. As a result of the decision of the galactic emperor, the globe is given a fief of Atride. However, this is only the beginning of the struggle for domination over the most important place in the universe.
For a long time we know that Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049) will be responsible for directing Diune's new adaptation; for him, Frank Herbert's novel is "Star Wars for Adults." The script by Villeneuve, Eric Roth (Forest Gump, A Star is Born) and Jon Spaihts (Dr. Strange, Passengers) is now ready. Shooting will start this spring. The team will visit Budapest and Jordan.
It is worth remembering that Legendary Pictures has acquired rights not only to the theatrical, but also TV adaptation of Diuna. Will they turn out to be better than the one created by David Lynch in 1984? They will certainly be different, but we will see for ourselves only in a while.
