Star Wars: Outlaws fans aren't waiting for confirmation of the sequel's cancellation and want to persuade Ubisoft to change its mind.

Ubisoft expected Star Wars to be a guaranteed hit, or at least a title that would sell well enough to cover the licensing costs. However, Outlaws did poorly. It's hard to draw any other conclusions from the official statements of the French publisher, who openly called the game a financial failure. (Although, according to Ubisoft, it was due to the poor condition of the Star Wars franchise).

Not long after, rumors appeared that the publisher had canceled the planned sequel to Star Wars: Outlaws. Ubisoft hasn't confirmed those reports - the second installment was never revealed, so the company has no reason to announce abandoning such a project. However, people who loved this game prepared a petition to dissuade Ubisoft from abandoning Star Wars: Outlaws.

Fight for the "good" Star Wars

This isn't the first such initiative. In May, some players were considering a similar action in the context of releasing another DLC for the game (via Reddit). So far, the current petition has been signed by 747 people.

In its description, the organizers admit that the release of Outlaws didn't go well, and they blame the game's failure on its poor debut, not on the state of the Star Wars franchise. And yet - as we read - there is no shortage of similar or even worse launches, which eventually got back on track, like Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky.

Also, SW: Outlaws was being developed. The latest patches have fixed a lot of issues that put off some players at launch. Therefore, according to the initiators of the petition, Ubisoft's abandonment of the brand is a "mistake."

Not all players are convinced whether this action makes sense. According to them, Star Wars deserves "good games," but can Outlaws (even after all the updates) be praised as something more than a "typical" Ubisoft game: "cool" and fun, but not really different from the previous open world games from the French publisher?

It is also possible to find people who genuinely liked Outlaws and consider the "hate" for the game to be greatly exaggerated. The issues with this production can't really be compared to the state of Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky at launch.

Nonetheless, even among these fans, voices of doubt appear (via Reddit).

I get the passion here, but a lot of this feels disconnected from how Ubisoft actually works. Comparing Outlaws to No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk [2077] ignores that those studios spent years rebuilding because it fit their long-term plans. Ubisoft rarely does multi-year redemption arcs unless there's ongoing monetization attached, and expecting them to suddenly change that approach for one game isn't realistic.
