Director of photography of the Harry Potter TV show has shared good news for fans of the series. He talked about how he sees the atmosphere of the upcoming production.
The warm and colorful magical world of the first Harry Potter movies, the atmosphere of which was set by Chris Columbus and his team, enchanted viewers and fans of J.K. Rowling's books. The magic poured from the screen and one could indeed feel at home in Hogwarts thanks to the effects that the director of the first movies managed to achieve.
Unfortunately, the darker the story became, the darker and color-washed the films became, which at some point, according to HP fans, simply became faded. The climate of last Harry Potter productions is often met with criticism from viewers who aren’t convinced by the faded colors of the movies.
Many have wondered what direction the Harry Potter TV series will take. Good news for those opposed to the style of the last HP films comes from Adriano Goldman, a director of photography who may influence the look of the upcoming HBO Max production. During an interview with Forbes, he explained that the TV series needs to be “more vibrant.” And also that his earlier work inspired Mark Mylod, director of the Harry Potter TV series.
The Crown gave me the opportunity to work with different directors and producers throughout the seasons. Director Mark Mylod, from the Harry Potter series, commented that he really liked The Crown and wanted this new version of Harry Potter to have a more realistic approach. […]
I have a special relationship with color. I think this series needs to be more vibrant from the overall point of view of the image. I like the idea that my work has inspired Mark Mylod – both in The Crown and in Andor, which, despite being science fiction, has a more realistic visual treatment.
The vision of a “more vibrant” TV series is really promising, given that more colorful first Harry Potter films that are liked by audiences more than the color-washed last ones. Let's hope that Goldman's idea will actually come to fruition.
