IN A NUTSHELL:
- The inspiration for Immortals: Fenyx Rising was the glitch found in AC Odyssey;
- The bug in question caused a group of cyclops to become the crew on the player's ship.
In an interview for IGN, Scott Phillips, Creative Director of downloadFenyx Rising, a title previously known as Gods & Monsters, revealed that the idea for the game was born in a rather unusual way. It turns out that the inspiration was a glitch found in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
“For me, the first memory I have of what would eventually become Immortals Fenyx Rising was a bug on Assassin's Creed Odyssey where you'd be sailing on your ship, but instead of your human crew, you ended up having cyclopes as your crew. It was just sort of one of those moments like, ‘Oh wow. Yeah, that'd be really cool actually to do a full game focused on this mythology'," the developer said.
It's noteworthy that AC Odyssey already had quite a few fantastic themes, but the developers decided that pushing this line even further could result in an interesting title. Judging by the first opinions and previews, they could be right - Immortals seems to be the most original Ubisoft game in years (or at least a game most different from company's other works), although by the way it may have suffered a certain identity crisis.
Immortals: Fenyx Rising will debut on December 3, this year. The game is slated for launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch consoles.
