Although the soulslike genre is considered difficult and demanding, many players have spent more than 100 hours in Elden Ring. This percentage is higher than that of Baldur's Gate 3 or Diablo 4.
Elden Ring is one of the biggest hits of recent years, which, apart from impressive sales, can also boast an interesting statistic: very high player engagement.
Soulslike games are known for being tough and demanding, so it's no surprise that some people might give up on them pretty early on. However, Elden Ring gives players more freedom than, for example, Dark Souls - thanks to this, when they get stuck on a boss, they can always turn back and explore another corner of the vast, open world.
One of the reasons why players spent a lot of time in the FromSoftware game was this solution, as shown on the chart shared by Alinea Analytics.
It's interesting to note that a lot more PlayStation players quit the game within the first 5 hours compared to PC users. This may suggest that the average console player prefers a different type of gameplay than the demanding soulslike genre.
To make it even more interesting, Alinea Analytics compared the engagement of Elden Ring players on Steam with two other titles: Baldur’s Gate 3 and Diablo 4. All three games can easily take over a hundred hours of our lives, as clearly shown in the chart below.
Diablo 4 is leading among players who have played over 500 hours. Even though the difference isn't big right now, it might grow in the future as Blizzard continues to support the game with more seasons and expansions.
By the way, Alinea Analytics revealed that Elden Ring is owned by over 36 million players on all platforms, and the game's revenue is nearly 2 billion dollars. In turn, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 2.4 million copies on Steam alone.
Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4, PS5, XOne, and XSX/S. In the future, the game will also hit Nintendo Switch 2 in an expanded version called Tarnished Edition, the content of which will be made available on other platforms in the form of DLC.
