Layoffs in the Studio Responsible for System Shock 3

Disturbing news comes from OtherSide Entertainment, the studio that makes up the third installment of the iconic System Shock series. The future of the series awaited by fans was questioned after the company layoff a significant number of employees at the end of last year.

Shodan's return not so certain anyore?
IN A NUTSHELL:
  • OtherSide Entertainment has laid off key developers of System Shock 3;
  • The future of title is at stake;
  • The situation does not affect the remake of the first installment of System Shock.

At the end of last year, one of the ResetEra forum users noticed that some of OtherSide Entertainment's key staff members updated their profiles on LinkedIn to indicate that they were no longer employed by the developer of System Shock 3. Shortly afterwards, a former community manager at OtherSide confirmed on the studio's official forum that layoffs had taken place at the company, referring for details to the RPGCodex website, where another employee, using the alias Kin Corn Karn, commented on the situation.

According to Kin, the team working on System Shock 3 lacked people, and the engine (Unity) chosen by the studio brass was not suitable for such an ambitious project. The withdrawal of the former publisher, Swedish company Starbreeze, also had a major impact on the poor financial situation of OtherSide Entertainment. Corn Karn Cinema doesn't know the studio's further plans for System Shock 3. He knows only, that the team that was responsible for the game's production is no longer working at OtherSide Entertainment.

It is worth noting that the above situation does not affect the remake of the first installment of System Shock., because another company is working on the title - Nightdive Studios.
