For more than seven years, fans of the first Mount & Blade and its spin-offs have been following any scrap of new information about a sequel. Yesterday their patience was rewarded, when Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord launched in early access on Steam. The title almost instantly became a huge hit. As the devs from TaleWorlds boasted on Twitter, 100,000 people were playing the game at the same time just 100 minutes after its release. According to Steamcharts, at the hottest moment of the day, the number exceeded 178 thousand users. At the time of writing this text, more than 200,000 virtual warriors are present in the game.
There's no denying that this is an impressive result that allowed TaleWorlds to reach its first major milestone. As things are, early access ebut of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is the biggest launch so far this year on Steam.
A large number of players is one thing, but it's equally important whether the title is enjoyed by the audience. Based on the opinions expressed on Valve's platform, it certainly is. 84% of more than 13,000 Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord reviews is positive. Above all, the players are simply happy to finally return to the world of Calradia. Those who have decided to describe their feelings in more detail note that in many ways Bannerlord is a better production than the original. This includes more real trade or the improved skill system. But the game is still based on the same proven formula, which isn't to the liking of those expecting a major revolution after such a long development process.
It's also important to remember that we're dealing with early access, so Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord suffers from many of the ailments of this period. The title has its share of bugs. Moreover, after gathering a fairly large army, the fun stops being a challenge and boredom begins to creep in. Mixed feelings have also been evoked by optimisation. Some people praise it and emphasize that the game doesn't slow down even during big battles. Others, on the other hand, claim that the game can stutter.
Whether those complaining or those praising is right, everyone can find out for themselves by buying Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Until April 13, the latest work from TaleWorlds can be obtained on Steam for $44,99 (additional 10% off can be obtained if we have any of the previous installments of the series in our library). Afterwards the price will increase to $49,99.
