New Ideas for Firewatch Adaptation - Plans for Movie or TV Series

There's been a lot of talk about Firewatch adaptaton again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snoot Entertainment has established a collaboration with Campo Santo, which will result in a movie or a TV series based on the 2016 game. So far we don't know many details about it.

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Snoot Entertainment has established a cooperation with Campo Santo, which will result in an adaptation of Firewatch.
  2. So far, we don't know if it's going to be a movie or a TV series.
  3. We also don't know any further details about the upcoming production.

Firewatch was one of the biggest hits of 2016 when it comes to indie games. Developed by Campo Santo, this first-person adventure game has won many awards and sold in a very decent number. There were even plans to make a screen adaption. Unfortunately, Good Universe, which was supposed to take care of moving the work to the silver screen, was bought by Lionsgate, and the matter went off the radar. It resurfaced only now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the devs of Firewatch, currently owned by Valve, were contacted by a film studio interested in creating a movie or a TV adaptation of their game. It is Snoot Entertainment, under whose wings such films as Blindspotting and Little Monsters were made.

The story presented in Firewatch should work well as a movie or a TV series.

Keith Calder and Jess Wu Calder will produce Firewatch for Snoot Entertainment. On Campo Santo's side, Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman will watch over the project. This is what the latter said about the upcoming title:

'Jess and Keith are hard-working and visionary film producers with impeccable taste in video games. Not unlike when we met Joe Drake and the team at Good Universe in 2016, we knew in our first conversation with Jess and Keith that they’d make great partners. We have no doubt in their expertise, their taste, and their passion and assume that our experience as so-so game developers will make us first-rate producing partners.'

The original Firewatch is set in 1989 in Wyoming. The main protagonist of the title is Henry - a middle-aged man experienced by life, who, wanting to escape from everyday existence, takes a job of a forest guard for the summer. His task is to watch out for fires and to reprimand unruly campers. Over time, he also establishes a fairly close relationship with his superior, Delilah, with whom he speaks using a walkie-talkie. Everything gets complicated when strange things start happening around the protagonist.

As for now, it's unclear whether the Firewatch-based film or TV series will accurately reflect the game's storyline, or whether it will give itself some freedom. Everything will be known when further details are provided.
