Prison Architect Devs Work on Space Strategy The Last Starship

The authors of Prison Architect have announced a space strategy game called The Last Starship. Registration for the tests has already started.

Known from Prison Architect, Darwinia and Uplink: Trust is a Weakness, studio Introversion Software has announced its next project. It is a strategy game titled The Last Starship.

  1. For now the game is coming exclusively to PC.
  2. The title will be sold on Steam.
  3. The Early Access launch is planned for the end of this year.
  4. Closed tests of the early version will start soon. Interested parties can express their willingness to participate in them using the option "Request access on the game's Steam tab.. This is a proposal for the brave, because the devs warn that many elements will be placeholders, and the whole thing is to be heavily underdeveloped.

In The Last Starship we start the game with an empty space ship hull. We will have to install engines, life support systems, weapons and other parts, and then set off to conquer the galaxy.

With the help of FTL drives the player will travel between planetary systems, where they have to undertake a variety of tasks. Our tasks will include the extraction of raw materials, transport of goods or rescue missions. There will also be star battles and trade.

We'll start with only one ship. Earned money can be invested in its improvement, but also in purchase of additional units. Eventually, it will be possible to create a huge galactic fleet.

The authors cite the games FTL: Faster Than Light, Factorio and the Elite series as a source of inspiration. They want to combine the freedom of space exploration with complex economy mechanics and rich shipbuilding mechanics. Sounds ambitious, but Introversion has shown time and time again that it can create excellent strategies.
