PS5's SSD Won't be the Fastest - PCs Got Something Better

Although Sony pitches PlayStation 5's SSD as a real breakthrough, it turns out that there is already technology available on the PCs that offers more than twice of its data reading speed. But there's a catch.

SSD - one of the most frequently commented components of the PS5.

Since Sony began to reveal PS5's specs, one of the most common topics was the console's SSD, which, according to the company (but not only - the head of Epic Games Tim Sweeney agrees), will be truly groundbreaking, offering data read speeds that are not even available on PCs (thanks to Mark Cerny's March presentation, we know it will be up to 9 GB/sec). However, it turns out that this is not entirely true - as reported by DSOGaming, the market currently offers SSD Element LQD4500 with a data read speed of 24 GB/sec.

There is one "but" - this device is dedicated to server rooms and workstations, which means it is not cheap. There are no details on the web, but the prices are not even listed in Liquid's product catalogue - to get to know them, we have to contact the manufacturer personally, which means that they are most likely to be breathtaking. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that PlayStation 5's SSD will indeed be the fastest hardware of its kind available to gamers - but it cannot be called the fastest SSD there is.
