Razr Users Say the Phone is Falling Apart; Motorola Reassures

As it turns out, Motorola's foldable smartphone is not as solid as the manufacturer claimed. Razr started to crack at the bend after just a week of testing, but the company sees no reasons to worry.

Damage after a week of use does not bode well.

Motorola attracted attention some time ago by announcing a folding smartphone under the name of Razr, which already at the time of the announcement became a competition for Galaxy Z Flip. As you know, folding screens are a relatively new and unreliable technology. No company has yet developed a perfect, flawless display (especially one that would work perfectly in folding smartphones). Motorola has even produced a special instructional video, showing how we should handle its new device. Unfortunately, sometimes even following the manufacturer's recommendations does not prevent damage.

According to Raymond Wong, the editor of Input, a copy of the phone turned out to be faulty already after a week from taking it out of the box. It all started when, riding on the train, he took out the phone from his pocket and unfolded it. At the point of bend, between the protective layer and the display, an air bubble began to form, resulting in a long, deep crack. Wong points out that the display is virtually unresponsive at the point of damage. He believes that Motorola Razr is susceptible to drastic temperature changes, which can cause the problem. The editor ensures that he did not do anything wrong with his phone, but only used it the previous day to take pictures at a temperature of about -1 degrees Celsius. Then he came home and only the next day discovered a change in the display.

The issue was of course reported to the company, which stated that it has "full confidence" in the durability of its displays and users should not worry about changing temperatures. If the weather conditions affect damage to the device, the product will be replaced under warranty.

"We have full confidence in razr’s display, and do not expect consumers to experience display peeling as a result of normal use. As part of its development process, razr underwent extreme temperature testing. As with any mobile phone, Motorola recommends not storing (e.g., in a car) your phone in temperatures below -4 degrees Fahrenheit and above 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If consumers experience device failure related to weather during normal use, and not as a result of abuse or misuse, it will be covered under our standard warranty," that's the answer Motorola has sent to the website.

The story ended well, as the damage copy of the folding smartphone was replaced with a new one. However, the whole situation is worrying, Motorola has not yet issued an official announcement about the situation and we do not know whether it intends to take action to locate and possibly eliminate the problem. We have no doubt that Razr has been subjected to extreme tests, but it must be borne in mind that it is not always possible to recreate real conditions in which the device will be used in a laboratory. Let us remind that you have to pay 1500 dollars for the phone.
