Shroud on CS:GO vs. Valorant: Valve Did Nothing for Years

Popular streamer Michael „Shroud” Grzesiek spoke about the compatition between CS:GO and Valorant. According to the Shroud, Valve realized that over the past few years they could do nothing, because there was no competition on the market. Now that the shooter from Riot Games has appeared, the devs have decided to introduce some important updates, and the biggest ones are probably still ahead of us.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • The famous steamer Shroud spoke about the competition between CS:GO and Valorant;
  • According to him, for the last few years the creators of CS did not have to do anything, because no one was able to threaten the dominance of the game;
  • it wasn't until after Valorant came along that the developers started making song long-awaited changes;
  • According to the streamer, the biggest improvements (including the transition to the Source 2 engine) are to appear in the summer - when Valorant officially debuts.

Since Valorant's appearance, many say that the new title from Riot Games will be a serious competitor to Valve's iconic online shooter - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This second title has dominated the market for many years and until now no one has been able to threaten its position. Developers have not been willing to make any significant changes during this time. Yes, the game switched to free-to-play at the end of 2018, which contributed to an increase in its popularity, but besides that, virtually nothing happened. Until now.

CS:GO has reigned in the online shooter market for years.

The last two CS:GO updates include key improvements to weapon balance, map changes, the test introduction of 1v1 skirmishes in the warm-up, and the addition of a preview and import of other players' crosshairs. The changes seem to be not only the answer to the appearance of Valorant, but also a foretaste of "something bigger".

This was also noticed by the well-known streamer - Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek - according to whom for the last few years Valve was perfectly aware that it didn't have to do too much to keep the players (initial statement on the video below). Now that Valorant's closed beta has begun, the creators are introducing new significant changes, but the biggest ones will probably appear only in the summer - when Riot's new shooter will officially debut.

"Valve is so smart. They know that CS:GO is their "baby" and they know that they had no competition for years. And they did nothing for years. The second a Valorant beta, closed beta, comes out, they start pumping updates. Tyler told me that he thinks that this summer Source 2 is gonna come out and CS:GO will gonna go through a huge overhaul. And that would makes sense, because Valorant plans to come out in the summer, right? Valve is so smart. They only updated and they only do shit when they know they have to. [...] That's a good thing, I like that, because we'll see something new in Counter-strike, which is cool.

It is hard to disagree with that. Shroud also commented on whether Valorant has a chance to beat the popularity of CS. According to the streamer, it most likely has, and will do it. The Streamer explains it by the fact that Riot's title is much more accessible for new players and more pleasing to the eye. It is also worth noting that Valorant will most likely conquer the Asian markets (which CS failed to do so far), which will significantly increase the number of its customers.

However, there is still a long way to go before dethroning the king of online shooters (which quite recently broke another activity record). So far, Valorant is only in a closed beta, and although the game has attracted many viewers to Twitch (due to the clever way it distributes access to closed beta), there has been some controversy over the proprietary anti-cheat software.
