Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Scrapped; DICE Focuses on Battlefield

It looks like we won't get an announcement of Star Wars: Battlefront 3. DICE intends to fully focus on the development of Battlefield.

  • DICE will cease development of the Star Wars: Battlefront series;
  • The studio will devote itself to work on Battlefield;
  • Star Wars games from EA will be handled by Respawn Entertainment.

The Star Wars: Battlefront series from DICE was plagued by many problems. The first part offered far too little content, while the second flooded us with loot boxes. Overall, however, these games had a lot of potential, and fans could hope that the next installment of the series will finally strike the perfect balance. Unfortunately, we will never know, because Battlefront 3 will most likely never be created.

According to VentureBeat DICE intends to focus on the development of Battlefield 2042. This will continue in the future - Swedish developers will devote themselves to work on their series of network shooters. It will require a lot of commitment, so the studio was forced to abandon plans to develop the Star Wars shooter. Its brief romance with the Star Wars universe came to an end.

This is supposed to be a general trend at EA. The company is to put emphasis on the development of original brands of individual studios. The evolution of all projects related to Star Wars which are still in the plans, is to be supervised by Respawn Entertainment. This is consistent with yesterday's announcement, according to which the studio takes care of three Star Wars titles.

It is worth noting that more and more companies from outside the EA family are involved in projects connected with Star Wars games - Ubisoft and Quantic Dream, among others, are involved in such works. Yesterday rumors circulated the web, claiming that the third installment of KOTOR is being worked on. BioWare supposedly has nothing to do with it.
