Studio Making The Witcher Spin-off Lays Off Staff After Project Restructuring [UPDATE]

The Molasses Flood, studio working on the Witcher spin-off Project Sirius, has laid off several employees. It is possible that this has to do with giving the project a „new framework,” as CD Projekt RED recently announced.

Update:

We have received a comment from CD Projekt RED regarding the layoffs at Project Sirius. The developers have confirmed that the staff reduction at The Molasses Flood has to do with the "new framework" mentioned a few days ago.

"The changes in the team working on Project Sirius are a natural consequence of defining a new framework for the project - they occurred mainly on the side of The Molasses Flood. We have parted ways with 21 team members in the United States and 8 people in Poland. That's all we have to communicate on this subject."

Original message:

What's happening with Project Sirius? Under this working name hides a spin-off to The Witcher developed by Boston-based studio The Molasses Flood. We recently reported that CD Projekt RED decided to give the project a "new framework" however, no specifics were provided as to what that framework would entail. Today it seems that the first direction taken by the studio is staff reduction.

Project Sirius staff reduced

The reason are posts by several former employees of The Molasses Flood who have announced their dismissal on social media.

Last Friday, the new employment status was announced by narrative designer Robert Bailey and Eleanore Falck who was in charge of ambient design.

For the time being, neither the Boston studio nor CD Projekt RED has officially addressed the staff layoffs, but they seem to be related to the recently defined "new framework." We have sent CDPR our own inquiry on the matter and will update this post when we receive a response.

Does this mean the future of Project Sirius has become uncertain? Or is it just a transitional period related to restructuring? Time will tell.
