This list of canceled GTA 5 expansions might break your heart. See what we could play

Grand Theft Auto V was originally supposed to get a lot of smaller and larger DLCs. Looking through the list, it's hard not to feel sad that the company has bet only on the Online Mode.

Grand Theft Auto V, unlike the previous installment, didn't receive any story expansion. Instead, Rockstar Games focused on developing the Online Mode, which brought the company huge profits. In the original plans, the fifth installment was supposed to receive quite a lot of DLCs.

Canceled GTA V expansions

User Synth Potato has compiled a list of ten DLCs on X - five of which are story expansions - that GTA 5 players were supposed to get after the release. Moreover, he briefly described what each of them was supposed to have.

  1. Agent Trevor - an expansion that went the furthest in the development phase, and much of its content later ended up in GTA Online as The Doomsday Heist. It was supposed to include 38 story missions, in which Trevor, recruited by the IAA as a special agent, would track a rebellious artificial intelligence. As part of the update, there were plans to add two new weapons: a crossbow and a harpoon, and also to open a casino. The expansion was supposed to be "at least on the level of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony."

This is how The Doomsday Heist DLC in GTA Online looks like.

  1. Zombie Apocalypse - a zombie apocalypse hits Los Santos, and the playable characters are Michael, his wife Amanda, and son Jimmy. A complete reconstruction of the city was planned - adding walls, boarded-up buildings, and a general apocalyptic style. The DLC was supposed to offer 18 story missions.
  2. Alien Invasion - not much is known about this expansion, but it is assumed that it was supposed to launch after Zombie Apocalypse. From the title, it's rather easy to deduce what it was supposed to be about.
  3. LibertyV (Liberty City Expansion) - the add-on that was supposed to port Liberty City to the GTA V engine. It is unknown whether it was planned as a story expansion.
  4. Prologue (North Yankton DLC) - the DLC was supposed to reintroduce North Yankton and expand the prologue from GTA V, most likely delving into the early fates of Michael, Trevor, and Brad.
  5. Assassination Pack - a package of 12 assassination missions intended for Franklin. Eventually, this content ended up in the Agent Trevor DLC.

  1. Flight School Pack - an update to the Flight School, known from GTA Online, was initially supposed to be added to the single-player mode as a DLC. The expansion was supposed to introduce new planes and training courses to the game.
  2. Relationship Pack - it is not known exactly what this add-on was supposed to introduce; however, it is speculated that it was supposed to be a new dating mechanic.
  3. Manhunt Pack - there are no traces left after this DLC, but it's possible that it was supposed to add cosmetic items from Manhunt. This is indicated by masks referring to this title, which appeared in GTA Online.
  4. High Res Textures Pack - an exclusive add-on for PC, which aimed to increase the resolution of all textures in the game.

In the end, Synth Potato shared a fun fact about the mysterious mural on Mount Chiliad. From the very beginning, it was supposed to be a harbinger of the add-ons planned for the game. The UFO icon symbolized Alien Invasion, the cracked egg icon - Michael's new life in Zombie Apocalypse, and the jetpack picture represented the Agent Trevor DLC. Smaller icons probably represented the remaining packages.

It's really sad to see how much content for GTA V has been canceled. I wish it was different for the upcoming GTA VI, but I'm afraid that after the release, Rockstar will probably focus mainly on developing the online mode again.
