This War of Mine dev announces Beat Cop – an 80s story about a New York cop framed for murder

Meet Beat Cop, a point-and-click adventure game and time management crossover from the creators of This War of Mine, 11 bit studios. The game will take you back to the 80s with its retro stylistics and multiple references to American popular culture.

This War of Mine developer is collaborating with a Polish studio called Pixel Crow to deliver their next game. Beat Cop is a pixel art adventure game about a New York cop named Jack Kelly. He is a former detective framed for murder and degraded to the lowest rank possible. As a regular beat cop, hated by everyone and with the local mafia on his back, Jack has to do more than care for his daily routine – he needs to turn every stone and find out who framed him. Whether he succeeds in achieving this goal depends on the player – Beat Cop will offer a non-linear story with multiple endings.

Right now it seems that the best asset of Beat Cop is the atmosphere of the 1980s New York. The reveal trailer itself will crack you up if you remember classic American crime television series, such as Kojak, Columbo, Magnum, and Miami Vice. Add some nasty humor, retro stylistics, tonnes of donuts, acres of pizza and gallons of coffee, and you’re home.

Beat Cop is coming out in Q4 2016 for PC (Windows, Linux) and Mac, and you can already pre-order it at Games Republic. The game will be playable at PAX East this weekend.
