WoW Community is 'Trash'; Asmongold Seconds the Critics

Asmongold once again criticized World of Warcraft. This time Zack echoed other streamers comparing the game's community and that of Final Fantasy XIV, and made it clear how much the comparison is against WoW.

The turmoil surrounding Activision Blizzard hasn't helped the popularity of World of Warcraft. The MMORPG was abandoned by many streamers. Among them was Zack "Asmongold", who briefly and bluntly described the community centered around WoW.

Asmongold is one of Blizzard's most popular game streamers, drawing crowds of viewers to Twitch (and YouTube) and - as is often the case with online celebrities - being known for his many controversies. However, during the last month Zack has not once streamed WoW - instead, he treated viewers to sessions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Around the same time, Square Enix's game gained so many new players that the servers of the online FF gave up. This could be seen as evidence of Asmongold's influence on the community, but many also point to the continued support of the developers, which contrasts with the recent disappointing updates to World of Warcraft.

However, Asmongold also gave another reason for the decline in popularity of Blizzard's game. The streamer echoed fellow streamer Esfand in saying that FFXIV simply has a much better, more supportive community than the "garbage" fan base of World of Warcraft. According to Zack, that's the "truest truth," and he confirms it as a former active player of WoW. In fact, Asmongold has a "little" controversy on his account. That's probably why one of the minor Final Fantasy XIV streamers was reluctant to welcome Zack into the community because - and we quote - "this kind of hatred and rudeness is not welcome in FFXIV”. However, the entry was deleted along with an - let's call it - intriguing response from one of Blizzard's employees (via Dexerto).

Of course, Asmongold's words should be treated with caution, even if other streamers previously associated with WoW agree with him. The same applies to further information about the abandonment of the game. Time will tell if this is just a temporary fad in the wake of recent controversies, or - to Blizzard's dismay - a harbinger of an uncertain future for the former king of MMORPGs.
