Oblivion Remastered: How to pick locks? Where to get lockpicks?
The fastest way to get rich or upgrade your character is to open chests that hide a lot of goodness. Most of them, however, are not so easy to open. If you want to learn how to open locks quickly and easily, that's what you'll find out in our guide to Oblivion Remastered.
Last update:
You don't have to choose the Thief class to be able to pick locks in Oblivion Remastered. It's true that this would make the task easier, but all you need is a lockpick. You can learn more about how to pick locks on our guide page.
Lockpicking
To open a chest, you must have a lockpick in your inventory.
Then a window will appear with a mini-game, which requires you to click a button at the right moment (on PC it will be the Spacebar). The right moment is when the tumbler appears at the very top. Pressing too soon or too late will cause the pick to break. When that happens, the earlier tumblers may fall down, forcing you to repeat the entire mini-game.
If you are having trouble opening a lock, you can also use the automatic attempt option. It checks the difficulty level of the lock and compares it to your Security skill. Then the game calculates the chance of opening the lock with a lockpick. However, this is a random solution, it may work on the first try, but sometimes you will lose up to 10 lockpicks and still not open the lock.
Where to find lockpicks?
You can look for lockpicks in various chests and on some people's corpses. However, it is never certain whether you will get a lockpick. A safer option is to visit a trader called Shady Sam.
You will find him in the City Isle location, or more precisely, near the Chestnut Handy Stables. When you get there, you will need to head north. He will stand close to the castle walls. Talk to hooded Sam and trade with him. He has 30 lockpicks, and each one will cost only 6 coins.
