After almost 20 years from the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, we are able to play its Remastered iteration. While I personally prefer Morrowind (hopefully, we will get its fresh version, too), it is undeniable that adventures in Cyrodill are a childhood memory for many. Playing it again is like opening a time capsule. Of course, we would like to share this unique feeling with others, am I right? Is it even possible? Can we play Oblivion Remastered in coop?

Let’s be honest, some remakes and remasters, which were released in recent years, were unnecessary, but others, like Oblivion Remastered, are quite welcomed. It is nice to see games from our memories as we remember them, not as they are in reality. Of course, it is nice visit old hanging spots with friends, right? So, coop seems to be a nice idea, doesn’t it?
Sadly, there is no multiplayer in Oblivion Remastered. Why is that so? There can be many reasons. The first I can think of is that if you want to create a good coop mode, you should think about it from the beginning. Original Oblivion was designed for single-player experience. Adjusting that would be connected with a lot of work and probably changing classic mechanics.
Another reason may be the lesson which Bethesda learned after the release of Fallout 76 and its poor reception. Preparing a good multiplayer experience is not an easy task. It took many updates and years for players to like this game.
Moreover, let’s remember that there is a multiplayer game in the world of Elder Scrolls. It is called The Elder Scrolls Online, it is even quite friendly for single player enthusiasts. By making Oblivion coop, developers might unintentionally create a competition.
To sum up, there is a lot to take into consideration when creating a multiplayer mode. Not always it is worth the trouble. If you are looking for coop experience, you need to check out other games. However, let’s remember that Elder Scrolls series is one of the most prolific franchises when it comes to mods. There is a chance that some fans’ creations will allow multiplayer experience. It would not be the first time in the gaming history.
