18 Classic PC Games Available on Mobile in 2023

We look at classic games for iPhones and Android and see if melancholy can overcome awkward controls.

Doom and Doom 2

You can also play both classic installments of the Doom series on Android. And it shouldn't surprise. The original has been launched on several unconventional devices, including the built-in screen of the keyboard and even on... a calculator.

Doom

  1. Price: $4.99
  2. In a nutshell: One angry man vs. hordes of demons in a classic first-person shooter

Doom is a gaming classic, also considered a milestone in the development of digital entertainment. Despite being 30 years old, some are still playing it, while others are outbidding themselves in launching it on ever-more ridiculous devices. However, you don't need a fridge or microwave to play Doom - a simple smartphone will suffice.

This pleasure will cost a bit, however, and is not necessarily well suited to phone screens. So before you get busy butchering hordes of demons, you'd better stock up on a smartphone controller that makes mobile Doom a much better experience. The graphics haven't undergone a major overhauls, but that's no problem, because on mobile devices Doom looks simply good, so you don't have to worry about anything.

Instead, you can enjoy what's happening on screen, and there's a lot going on! Old man Doom lost nothing on playability, and the unique aspects of playing on a smartphone fit perfectly with this classic production. So if by some miracle you haven't played the mother of all FPS games yet, this is one hell of a chance to do so.

Doom 2

  1. Price: $4.99
  2. In a nutshell: a sequel better than the original

Although Doom 2 made its debut in 1994, the production didn't appear on Android devices until the second half of 2019. Since then, the mobile port has only been getting better. Soon after the launch, Bethesda, "stimulated" by players, removed DRM from the game. A later update introduced support for 16:9 aspect ratio and support for 90 and 120 Hz refresh rates.

The portable version has preserved the spirit and atmosphere of the title from nearly three decades ago. Even those who haven't experienced the original, are eager to exterminate the next hordes of enemies on their mobile or tablet - the game is very addictive. The controls don't bother me, although someone who has never preferred touch controls won't be convinced by it in Doom 2. However, that isn't a problem because the mobile version supports a controller.

The game encourages multiple playthroughs. There are several difficulty levels to choose from. In addition, the time of completion is measured at every stage, allowing for setting new records. You can also complete this title at 100%.
