15 Most-Wanted MMORPGs Coming in 2020

MMORPGs aren't dead – quite to the contrary, they're doing pretty well. In this article, we're taking a look at the most interesting projects that should be released between 2020 and 2021.

Table of Contents

Fractured

  1. How long we've been waiting: 2 years
  2. To be released: mid-2020
  3. Distinguishing features: isometric perspective, strongly inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, environment affecting the battle

Fractured is definitely one of those less pretty games, which try to compensate for the visual disadvantages with solid mechanics and storyline. In addition, it will use isometric perspective, which in itself is a risky decision. Then, there's no classes – they were replaced with a system that allows you to choose from different schools of magic and combat. Among the powers, there will be manipulation of emotions, or telekinesis. This itself proves the project is quite original.

But this is not the end, for Fractured is based on several uncommon mechanics. Our character, for example, will be defined in accordance with the lore of Dungeons and Dragons, that is, as good, bad, or neutral. Selecting a category will determine your character's limitations, privileges, bonuses, but also the kinds of worlds we'll be allowed to visit. All this will be complemented by the system of karma, allowing you to win the favor of the gods.

As if that's not enough, the environment will have a significant impact on combat. You will be able to freeze a lake and walk over the ice. The enemy will receive more damage from lightning strikes if they're in water. Fire spells can set enemies and environment on fire. The question is how well this mechanics are balanced, and whether they're helpful or harming for the gameplay, but we cannot answer that before the game's released.
