However, during the game player also obtains other weapons and experience which allows upgrading of the available tools of destruction. Gameplay mechanics of The Expendables 2 combine several different genres and the game focuses on cooperation mode. Usually the player travels through levels in groups, repels the attacks of hordes of enemies and the action is shown from above, just like in oldschool shoot’em up games. During some points of the campaign the game changes into a typical rail shooter and the player is tasked with efficient elimination of incoming opponents.

The story is told through animated cutscenes and dialogues displayed during missions. The gameplay itself is based on the standard patterns used in typical platformers. Thus the player traverses platforming sections, solving puzzles and searching for the exit point in a given level. However, the player also fights various enemies with a large set of fancy weapons. Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken offers hilarious, cartoonish visuals, as well as an opportunity to complete the story campaign in co-op mode.
