Another installment in the popular Japanese RPG series developed by Nihon Falcom Corp. Once again, the players get to travel to the land of Zemuria, more exactly to the territory known as Erebonia, where the Thors Military Academy is located. The school is attended by children of both gentry and common citizens – the exception being the 7th grade comprising only the main protagonists of the game. The action of the game is set during one school year, in which the students increase their skills, acquire military experience, and overcome the differences that divide them. The background of the story is filled with ever-growing tensions in the society that might result in an outbreak of a civil war. The plot of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel features a non-linear structure and is shaped by the decisions made by the players. In comparison to the previous installments in the series, this game stands out with its multiple improvements, the most prominent being the TPP perspective, which has replaced the typical for the series top down perspective. Additionally, the game features more dialogues and a modified combat system. Once again, battles are turn-based, however, they are more dynamic because of the combo system enabling players to mount spectacular and powerful attack sequences. Moreover, the choices a player makes throughout the game affect the combat efficiency of particular characters.

Now the Champions are coming to the player – who assumes the role of the ruler of one of the kingdoms – when a certain fame level is reached. In addition to that, instead of having random skills, Champions have a separate skill tree. Thanks to that, the players can control their development. The changes also include the battle system – strength in numbers became more important. A survival futuristic racing game. Distance is the debut production of Refract, a studio founded by the creators of Nitronic Rush, a well-received free racing game. The player sits behind the wheel of a futurist car that, apart from driving at insane speeds, can also fly, jump, rapidly rotate around its axis, and use afterburners. The tracks are full of imaginative traps and exploring them plays an important role, as well. Of course, the driving model is purely arcade, and while racing, we constantly perform wild stunts. Instead of circling around one route, we try to reach the end of the map as quickly as possible. Reaching the finish line is made easier by the gadgets mounted in the car that allow us to drive on ceilings and walls, among other things. Distance offers a number of varied modes for a single player and for multiplayer play. The developers have also prepared a powerful editor that lets users create their own tracks.

In the game, the player assumes the role of one of loyal commanders of dead Emperor, who is tasked with punishing the traitors which caused the monarch’s death. In order to do it, player takes control of a modern fighter jet, Executor Mk II, and commands the remains of the defeated fleet of the empire. The gameplay mechanics in House of the Dying Sun are based on classic space simulators. However, they are supplemented with expanded strategic aspect. During the missions, player is not only tasked with controlling the ship, but commanding a whole squadron through a special tactical screen similar to the one from Homeworld series as well.

An expansion to Crusader Kings II: Dark Ages, a successful strategy game released in 2012 by Paradox Interactive. Instead of being a feudal ruler, in Crusader Kings II: The Republic player assumes the role of the head of a trading house. He is tasked with leading his family to domination over the Hanseatic League and taking control of important trading cities like Venice, Genoa, Pisa and Gotland. Instead of building castles and conquering enemy territories, the player concentrates on controlling cities and trading. The interface and the whole economic aspect were modified in order to fit in the trading character of the gameplay. The player gains access to a family palace which can be improved and expanded. One can also build trading posts at the coast. The title of a leader of a republic lasts till the end of a character's life and is passed on to the head of the strongest local family through voting. Obtaining it is an important objective, but failure in doing so doesn’t mean the end of the game.

The creators put special emphasis on recreating the bonds existing between the mother badger and her cubs. The game features extremely original visuals that contribute to the game's unique experience.

Continuation of Defense Grid: The Awakening - a popular tower defense strategy created in 2008 by Hidden Path Entertainment studio. The plot of the game continues the threads started in the predecessor and tells the story of the commander struggling with the next foreign forces. Just like in the first installment of the game, our actions are commented on by artificial intelligence, known as Fletcher. In terms of mechanics we are dealing with a typical representative of the genre, in which our task is to build various defensive structures in order to repel successive waves of enemies. The authors, however, tempted to introduce completely new types of opponents and previously absent defensive towers. A system for improving structures has also been developed, enabling them to be equipped with additional subassemblies. Thanks to the new engine, the graphics of the game have improved significantly, and the maps have become larger and more extensive. The functional level editor prolongs the fun in single and multiplayer mode.

The second, rather unique, DLC for the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series, an RPG series by Bethesda Game Studios. The expansion entitled Hearthfire does not introduce any new storylines and hardly any quests. Instead, it focuses on an entirely new feature which is the possibility to build a house and found our own family. Thanks to it, we can build the manor of our dreams (or several) without using additional editors. It is a complicated process, though, because it requires buying a plot of land, designing the building on a drafting table, gathering materials and processing them into construction materials. Having erected a house, we can furnish it, and then, for example, cultivate the garden or breed fish, bees, or cattle. Moreover, we can even adopt children that can be played with but also have to be brought up and protected.
