Release Date: August 7, 2025
The fourth part of the cult action game series, which is a prequel set in Sicily at the beginning of the 20th century. In Mafia: The Old Country we play as a former miner named Enzo who ends up working for the criminal family of Don Torrisi. The game has a linear structure with no open world and runs on Unreal Engine 5.
Mafia: The Old Country is the fourth installment of the Mafia series. It is also its prequel, set at the beginning of the 20th century. The development of this action-adventure game was handled by Hangar 13 studio. It has games like Mafia III and Mafia: Definitive Edition in its portfolio. The release was overseen by the company 2K Games, which manages the brand.
Unlike previous parts of the series, Mafia: The Old Country does not provide us with an open world. Instead, we receive a linear adventure that takes us to various corners of Sicily, allowing us to familiarize ourselves with the beginnings of organized crime, which eventually made its way from there to the United States.
Due to the time and place, seeing gangsters patrolling their territories on foot or on horseback is a daily occurrence here. Nevertheless, some people have access to cars from that time period. Our primary arsenal includes firearms (led by a shotgun) and a knife. Hangar 13 studio has also recreated the Sicilian style of fighting. We can eliminate enemies in open combat or quietly, sneaking up behind them.
Mafia: The Old Country serves as an introduction to the series. It is set in Sicily at the beginning of the 20th century. The main character of the game is Enzo. The protagonist grew up working in a sulfur mine, and the search for a better life led him into the arms of the criminal family of Don Torrisi, to whom he swore loyalty.
Mafia: The Old Country runs on Unreal Engine 5 instead of the proprietary Illusion Engine technology, previously used by Hangar 13.
Mafia: The Old Country is offered in two digital editions. The Deluxe Edition, in addition to the base game, offers an artbook, a soundtrack, and two content packs - Padrino Pack and Gatto Nero Pack. They both include special types of weapons, costumes, and vehicles.

Console Creatures: 8 / 10 by Bobby Pashalidis
Mafia: The Old Country is a no-nonsense, back-to-basics experience, and its dedication to authenticity serves as its best attribute. By sticking to a tight, linear experience, The Old Country allows the performances and writing to do the heavy lifting without losing the allure of the Sicilian countryside. By bringing to light a specific place in time that few movies or games have gone before, there's a wealth of details you'll come to appreciate.

Ultimately, The Old Country fails to make the most of its world’s uniqueness, as evidenced any time you must leave your vehicle to interact with it.
