The fifth major installment in the extremely popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, created by the Ubisoft company in 2007. It is at the same time the first iteration of the series designed for PC and the eight generation consoles. The new story features a new assassin, Arno. The story is set in the late-18th-century Paris, faithfully recreated in the game. In the turbulent times of the French Revolution the protagonist is trying to alter the fate of his nation, while seeking retribution for his past mistakes. The debut of the series on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 provided an opportunity to re-imagine the series. Changes included not only graphics, physics, and animations, but also gameplay mechanics and combat system. The hero learned new abilities that can be developed in three different areas. The game world is bigger and richer in content, offering full freedom of exploration.

The third major entry in the action adventure game series, Assassin Creed. Assassin Creed III has been created by Ubisoft Montreal in cooperation with its subsidiaries. It continues the story of the conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. Most of events take place during the American War of Independence (1753-1783). The main character – Connor Kenway – is, once again, an ancestor of Desmond Miles. The half-blood Indian vows to fight tyranny and seek justice. The creators have skillfully implemented many historical figures and events to the story. As per Assassin’s Creed tradition, the gameplay takes place in an open-world environment, with players having a lot of freedom in completing tasks and exploration.

A pirate tactical action game developed by a Shanghai-based studio working under Ubisoft. Skull & Bones takes place during the golden age of piracy on the waters of the Indian Ocean. The player assumes the role of a corsair who commands his ship while gradually building up his reputation and amassing more loot. At the beginning, the player has only a single ship, but as he progresses through the game he obtains an entire fleet of various ships that differ among each other in agility, firing range, and durability. Each ship can be customized with additional parts that change its looks and combat effectiveness. The game takes place in an open world in which the player competes with artificial intelligence and with other players. During the battles it is important to take advantage of water currents, prepare proper tactics, and to cooperate with allies. It is also important to select adequate ship for the type of task the player intends to complete.

The fifth installment in the popular strategy game series created by Creative Assembly in 2000. This new game is set in the 18th century, focusing on key events of the period, such as the American Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, and the rivalry over the Eastern trade routes. Although the core concept of the gameplay remains the same, the mechanics went through some major alterations, mainly due to the introduction of sea warfare. The game lets you command entire fleets as well as individual ships. Moreover, external factors, e.g. weather conditions, can affect sea battles. Additionally, the game offers improved advisers, as well as new options of trade, diplomacy, and espionage. Due to the widespread use of firearms in the period, new combat tactics have to be used. However, the key elements of the series, the turn-based strategic layer and large-scale battles, remained unchanged.

The player takes the role of a judge in the Revolutionary Tribunal, who judges both revolutionists and their enemies, as well as criminals and ordinary citizens. During the game you get to make lots of decisions that affect not only the course of the protagonist’s career or the fate of his family and friends, but also the balance of political power in the capital of France. The game still focuses on managing a settlement by gathering resources, constructing new buildings, discovering new areas of the map and leading selected nation through various ages. An online sailing simulator developed by the Ukrainian developer, Game-Labs, whose members worked previously on the STALKER and Total War series. The action of the game is set between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century - a period within the so-called Age of Sail. The gameplay focuses on the exploration of the enormous game world, where the players can trade, take assignments, and participate in realistic sea battles. The game features faithfully recreated weapons from the period, including various types of cannons, mortars, and carronades. One of the game's characteristic, and very realistic, features is the ship handling, as the player can control each sail separately and the crew management is also rather complex. The visuals are powered by the Unity engine, which makes the game look better than one could expect. Also, the creators' dedication to recreate the ships as authentic as possible deserves praise.

Fifteen years after the events shown in the base game, the main protagonist sets off on a mission to retrieve a package from the hands of the Templars, however, as a result of an accident, his ship crashes near the city of Port-au-Prince, where Adewale encounters his enslaved kin. He does not linger for long and decides to rescue all of them as well as to take his revenge on the white torturers. In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry the gameplay revolves around the formula developed for the sake of Edward Kenway’s adventures – the expansion offers nine elaborate missions constituting a story mini-campaign. The second episode of the trilogy of expansions to Assassin’s Creed III released in 2012 by Ubisoft. The expansion, called The Tyranny of King Washington - The Betrayal, tells the next part of the story started in the first DLC. The protagonist of the basic game, Connor, awakens in a reality in which he never became an assassin. However, when the country is in peril, he decides to fight George Washington who, corrupted by the Apple of Eden, will stop at nothing to gain absolute control of the country. In the second part of the story, the protagonist is going to Boston, where he intends to gain cooperation from some allies, whom he doesn’t exactly like. The expansion offers completely new main and side missions. During them Connor will use the new abilities added in the previous DLC – the powers of wolf, eagle, and bear, “warpaint” and “alpha of the pack”.

The final episode of The Tyranny of King Washington expansion that adds a completely new story campaign to the third installment of the bestselling Assassin’s Creed series developed by Ubisoft. The Redemption finishes the story shown in two previous expansions, in which Connor, the main protagonist, faces a power-crazed version of George Washington. This time the action takes place in New York City. The protagonist, together with previously gained allies, tries to finally put an end to Washington's tyranny. As usually, the expansion adds new missions related to the main story and a set of side activities. During the game the player will have many opportunities to use the new powers added by the expansion. These powers include animal instincts, warpaint with special effects, and the ability to call an allied pack of wolves.
