The fifth main installment of the best-selling grand strategy series from Paradox Interactive. Europa Universalis V brings a lot of improvements and new features compared to EU4, including expanded diplomacy, more advanced economy, as well as changes to military and logistics.
Europa Universalis V is the fifth main installment of the best-selling grand strategy series, which began in 2000.The game was developed by Paradox Tinto studio, and was overseen by one of the "fathers" of the series, namely the team leader Johan Andersson. The project was created under the codename Project Caesar.
In Europa Universalis V the gameplay takes place on a political map of the world, which we view from a bird's eye perspective. During the game, we take control over a selected country and over the course of subsequent centuries (from the late Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution) we guide its fate in such a way as to make it a world power.
All matters related to the functioning of the country rest on our shoulders. The creators delved into individual mechanics, modifying and expanding them in relation to Europa Universalis IV and previous installments of the series. We are primarily talking about diplomacy, which allows us to establish friendly relations with neighbors (this is a gateway to trade), ask friends for help or send threats to enemies.
The situation is similar with the economic model, which has become more advanced. The military system has also changed, allowing the selection of commanders managing our units on land and sea, and logistics were also deepened. War plays an important role here, as it represents not only one of the ways to defend one's interests or borders, but also to expand the latter, and consequently - to increase our sphere of influence.
The game also allows us to decide on the privileges of individual groups of citizens. We can both try to maintain a balance between factions, and favor some at the expense of others (and our own, for example by sharing power with the nobility).
Over the centuries, we also make significant decisions shaping social values. The choices we make determines what kind of system will prevail in our country, or even how its inhabitants will relate to the followers of a particular religion. Populations inhabiting specific areas are presented on the map (for the first time in the series history), which facilitates the division of provinces depending on religion or culture.
In the background of all this, important events are taking place, in which we participate to a lesser or greater extent. It largely depends on us whether we will repeat the course of history known from textbooks, or whether we will be tempted to create an alternative version of events, for example by expanding England's overseas colonies or maintaining Mongolian rule in Moscow.
Europa Universalis V allows for single-player gameplay, as well as multiplayer mode over the Internet. The game allows for both cooperation and competition with other players.
The game's graphic design mainly consists of maps and interface elements. This includes a political map of the world, as well as a more detailed map visible in close-ups, allowing us to examine the terrain and three-dimensional models of units and buildings.

Game Ratings for Europa Universalis V Video Game.
CGMagazine: 8 / 10 by Eduard Gafton
Europa Universalis V ushers in what will likely be a new golden age for this grand strategy franchise, even if it currently needs some fine-tuning.
NoobFeed: 95 / 100 by Mezbah Turzo
Europa Universalis V isn't perfect; AI quirks, balance tweaks, and the occasional micro-management tedium remain. But when it clicks, it's a deep, rewarding, and endlessly playable grand strategy experience that feels like a proper evolution, not just an expansion.
