AC: Valhalla With Rap Battles Like in Monkey Island

Creative director of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla has decided to explain what the in-game insult duels will consist. The described mechanics resemble that of the iconic Monkey Island series.

During the adventure, Eivor will have to display not only combat skills, but also sharp tongue and sense of rhythm.

In recent weeks, we have learned a lot about Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. One of the most unusual of the planned novelties is the so-called fliting, i.e. insult competitions, which fans jokingly call "Viking rap battles". The creative director of the project, Ashraf Ismael, decided to explain how the mechanic will look like in the game.

During the verbal duels we will have to choose insults from the list, so that they fit the situation, are the right answer to the rival's provocations and have the right rhythm. Verbal wrestling is to be watched by the audience, rewarding best burns with cheers.

As Ashraf Ismael explains, such rivalries were a popular element of the culture of the time, both among the Vikings and on the Saxon side. One of the sagas of Scandinavian mythology describes such a duel between Odin and Thor, which ended with the victory of the former.

Winning a verbal clash is supposed to bring our character not only satisfaction from victory. For now, the devs are not ready to reveal what prizes we can expect.

It's worth mentioning, that insult duels have already appeared in video games. The best known example is the Monkey Island series, where fencing duels boiled down to trying to insult our opponent at the right rhythm. The Oh...Sir! series from the Polish studio Vile Monarch is based on a similar idea.

As a reminder, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is coming to PCs, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia streaming service. The game will be released later, this year. It is worth mentioning, that the game will be part of Smart Delivery. Thanks to this, people who buy the XONE version of the game, will also receive it on XSX.
