Despite complaints from many players, the DICE studio has decided not to change the class and weapon system in the next installment of the Battlefield series. So, instead of solutions from older installments, we will get an improved version of the mechanics from BF2042.
EA DICE studio revealed some new details about the next installment of the Battlefield series. During game tests conducted as part of Battlefield Labs, the issue of guns sparked some controversy. Traditionally, in the Battlefield series, specific types of weapons were assigned to classes. BF2042 changed that, which wasn't warmly received by the community. So, it was quite a surprise to see the return of this dispersion (in a modified form) in the test version of the next installment. In their latest post, EA DICE confirmed that they don't plan to change this, and every class in the game will have access to all types of weapons.
At the same time, the devs will introduce bonuses for individual classes and weapons. For example, if we play Assault and use an assault rifle, our character will be able to switch from running to shooting more quickly. Such a solution is meant to encourage players to use weapons that suit their class, but each of them will be able to play with the entire arsenal if they wish.
At the moment, we don't know when the release of Battlefield 6 is planned. The financial reports of Electronic Arts only indicate that it should occur before the end of March 2026.
It's worth noting that many indications suggest that open testing of the new Battlefield will start soon. Players found mentions of an open beta in the early version of the game files, which were added by the latest update. The title is set to be officially revealed this summer, so open tests may be announced immediately after that.
