Battlefield 7

Battlefield 7 is - despiteits name - the tenth main installment in a popular series of first-person shooters by Electronic Arts. It was created by EA DICE, a Swedish studio which has been developing the series since 2002. The team leader was Vince Zampella, the co-founder of Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), a subsidiary of EA since 2017.

Title etymology

Though not all of them have been properly numbered, there are nine mainline Battlefield games so far (with this one being the tenth). These are: BF 1942 (2002), BF Vietnam (2004), BF 2 (2005), BF 2142 (2006), BF 3 (2011), BF 4 (2013), BF 1 (2016), BF V (2018) and BF 2042 (2021). Since there's no full-fledged sixth game so far, Battlefield 2042 can be considered one, as it come out after V. Following this line of reasoning, the next installment would be a "7", at least until EA reveals its official name.

What we know

Work on Battlefield 7 began at the turn of 2021 and 2022. After the disappointment its predecessor turned out to be, BF 7 is to be a return to the series' roots. The game is said to offer smaller battles (rather than with 128 people at once), regular character classes (instead of BF 2042's specialists) like assault and medic, "realistic, exciting destructible environments" and a story campaign (its presence being officially confirmed by EA). It will also include multiplayer.

On the other hand, Electronic Arts has dropped several hints the new Battlefield will be a series reboot, reimagining and a "truly integrated ecosystem". This means it's likely it's another attempt to create a live service game that would be developed for years (like what BF 2042 was supposed to be).

When does the game release?

Most reports regarding the release date of Battlefield 7 mention 2024. It is possible though it might take longer.
