Release Date: October 10, 2025
The tenth main installment in a series of first-person perspective shooters by Electronic Arts, developed by EA DICE, led by Vince Zampella. Unlike BF 2042, Battlefield 6 features both multiplayer and a singleplayer campaign about a fictional modern conflict between NATO and a mercenary group Pax Armata that attacked the USA.
Battlefield 6 is - contrary to its name - the tenth main installment of the popular first-person shooter (FPS) series by Electronic Arts. It was mainly created by the Swedish studio EA DICE, which has been developing the series since 2002. This time, the team's work, which began at the turn of 2021 and 2022, was led by Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment. This is the studio also responsible for Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, acquired by EA in 2017.
In addition to EA DICE, the studios EA Motive (responsible for the story campaign), Criterion Games and Ripple Effect were engaged in the development.
The first beta tests for Battlefield 6 are scheduled for August 6 and 7, 2025. Access to them was granted to players who joined Battlefield Labs before July 31, 2025, as well as viewers of selected streams on the Twitch service (as part of so-called Twitch Drops).
The remaining fans had to wait for the open tests taking place on August 9-10 and August 14-17, 2025.
The action of BF6 takes place in the year 2027. After the world was shaken by a big terrorist attack, the main countries of Europe left NATO, which significantly weakened the entire alliance. The situation was decided to be exploited by a private military organization known as Pax Armata, which launched a massive attack on the United States. The clearly weakened forces of the North Atlantic Treaty were forced to face it.
Against such a backdrop, we not only engage in multiplayer skirmishes, but also participate in a story campaign.
The narrative single-player mode returns in Battlefield 6 after being absent in Battlefield 2042. The story campaign throws us into various corners of the world. As a member of the elite Marine Raiders unit, we have the opportunity to participate in the defense of New York against an invasion, storm Gibraltar, or cross the Sahara aboard a tank.
In multiplayer mode, overseen by EA DICE itself, Battlefield 6 once again offers smaller matches for 64 players (instead of 128-person ones like in BF 2042), as well as traditional character classes for the series (instead of specialists) and a realistic environment destruction system.
There is also a so-called "kinesthetic combat system", thanks to which the mobility of our soldiers has significantly increased. They are now capable of actions like dragging the wounded from the battlefield or attaching weapons to walls to reduce recoil.
As usual in the Battlefield series, we can use a wide range of machines, such as tanks, helicopters, jet planes, drones or light reconnaissance vehicles.
Four character classes have been prepared for Battlefield 6:
On launch day, Battlefield 6 offered nine maps for multiplayer mode, scattered across five locations:
The following multiplayer variants have been implemented in Battlefield 6:
The penultimate of the mentioned modes is a novelty in the series, so it deserves a separate mention. Escalation is a mode in which two teams fight each other for control over strategic points located on the maps.
Battlefield Portal is a special mode in the form of a unique sandbox, known from Battlefield 2042. In Battlefield 6, it has been enriched with new possibilities. In addition to access to the rules and resources of previous installments of the series, on which we can create custom games, it also offers map editing. The new functionality allows us to arrange, scale and duplicate objects, as well as use NPC scripts. The most popular projects made by players have a chance to be turned into official modes.
Battlefield 6 utilizes the latest (at the time of release) version of Frostbite technology, which is a proprietary engine developed by DICE studio. Its most important element, and at the same time a characteristic feature of the game, is the extensive destruction of the environment.
In addition to the full version of Battlefield 6, its more expensive Phantom Digital Edition included the following elements:
Battlefield Labs was announced at the beginning of 2025 as a platform for testing various game elements and directly sharing feedback with developers.
The official title of the game was not known for a long time, even when its tests began on the Battlefield Labs platform. It was revealed just three months before the premiere. In connection with this, two colloquial names - Battlefield 6 and Battlefield 7 - have already become widespread on the internet, used interchangeably due to the inconsistent numbering of previous editions.
The penultimate game in the series is BF V from 2018, released five years after BF 4 - before the announcement of the full-fledged "six", Battlefield 2042 (2021) could be seen in this role. Depending on whether BF 2042 was included in the count or not, the installment described here was treated as the "sixth" or "seventh". Some also dropped the number and simply called the game Battlefield, seeing it as a kind of reboot of the series.

Battlefield 6 review: Getting back to the roots paid off
Battlefield 6 may not be a perfect game, but it is definitely the best game in the series in a long time, and it's hard to describe just how good it feels to play Battlefield again.

There will be no shortage of high-profile launches in October. We start with Ghost of Yotei, then we go to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, The Outer Worlds 2, and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. And then there's also Battlefield 6 on the way!
Support Specialist 3 is a challenge that frustrates many Battlefield 6 players. However, there is a way to “fix” it.

The new Battlefield 6 challenges are quite controversial. Many players don’t like them. And “Get kills, avenger kills count double” seems just bugged, or really badly phrased.

Battlefield 6 is a successful entry for the Battlefield series, offering engaging gameplay and a stable experience on current-gen hardware. Battlefield 6 is, at its best, a reminder of why we fell in love (in October) with this franchise in the first place. It's relentlessly fun when everything clicks. Even with its few rough edges and some missing pieces, it's hard not to be impressed by how well this entry captures the spirit of Battlefield's golden era.

Sure, I could complain about the rather modest content at launch and the terrible storyline in single-player mode, but in reality, these are minor inconveniences. Battlefield 6 is an FPS that I had a lot of fun playing, and I know I won't be moving on from this title anytime soon. Although I still have a lot of affection for the older installments, I already feel that I will spend hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours with the sixth installment – as long as the developers don't give up and consistently deliver new content. I look to the future with hope and joy, wondering what else the developers have in store for us. Nevertheless, Battlefield 6 is already an excellent game with sensational optimization, great visuals, and phenomenal sound, and above all, gameplay that is completely addictive, providing many hours of great fun.

Battlefield is so back! The development teams have delivered on the promise to bring the series back to its best. Whilst everything isn’t perfect, it isn’t far from being perfection across the board. Whilst the campaign isn’t the most memorable experience, it is worth playing through its five-hour-long adventure. Where Battlefield 6 really shines is in the multiplayer modes, with impressive cinematics, destruction, and that 64-player classic gameplay we all know and love. I’d say this is a potential game of the year contender, which doesn’t just deliver gunfire and explosions, it catapults you into the immersion of modern warfare, where every single moment feels intense as it does unforgettable.
