Bethesda is polling players for suggestions on how to improve its hugely popular surprise release The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which launched last week. Much like the original, this remaster is full of bugs, some intentional nostalgia-fueled carry over from the original, others not so much. The remaster is available as part of Xbox Game Pass on both PC and console but can be found on other platforms as well. According to a social media post by Bethesda, the game reached four million players by the end of last week. With a game as popular as this, what kind of suggestions are fans offering?

Bethesda is taking suggestions for Oblivion Remastered improvements

“Bethesda jank” is a common term with the studio’s various popular franchises. This comes up in The Elder Scrolls, but also in Bethesda’s other franchises, Starfield and Fallout. It even finds its way into other comparable games like this year’s Avowed and Atomfall. Oblivion was known for spawning multiple popular memes, and fascinatingly, one voice line blooper that somehow made the cut anyway. These enormous open-world games tend to have awkward character interactions and strange glitches that give the games a certain charm.

Most fans are fine with leaving that as it is. There are more pressing improvements to deal with first. First and foremost is the game’s difficulty. Just glancing at the Oblivion subreddit over the last week has proved that there is a problem. It’s common to find a post suggesting when a player should or shouldn’t take on certain quests, as it’s easy to be accidentally over or under leveled, making the challenge insurmountable or trivial. This is a problem that existed with the original game and was unfortunately carried over to the remaster.

Some other great suggestions from fans on Reddit include a tag on the world map for “cleared” dungeons, a way to check carry weight when looting, a separate inventory tab for keys, and maybe the most important of all, the ability to pet mudcrabs. Thanks u/TheDorgesh68 for that last one. If you want to leave suggestions, check out the Bethesda Discord server.

Oblivion Remastered has only been out for one week, so while it’s not unusual for developers to look for feedback, it’s not usually this quick. But then again, it is a remaster of a game from 2006. For now, it’s a great time to jump into Oblivion, and hopefully these suggestions find their way into the game at some point. Any particularly great suggestions might eventually find their way into The Elder Scrolls VI, which Bethesda is quietly working on in the background.
