Better late than never. Sony apparently realized its mistake and removed regional restrictions on its hits on Steam

Sony has finally listened to players' requests and has begun removing regional restrictions on Steam, so that residents of more than 100 previously excluded countries can now buy such titles as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, and God of War: Ragnarok.

It looks like Sony has finally admitted their mistake and started lifting regional restrictions for their PC games.

Let's start by giving some background on this issue. These restrictions resulted from the fact that, since last year, the company has required a PlayStation Network account to play its PC conversions. This service is not available in over 100 countries, and for this reason, the option to purchase these games has also been disabled for their residents. The company even went further and recently imposed the same restriction on the PC version of Stellar Blade, even though in this case, Sony is only the publisher and the game doesn't require a PSN account. At that time, players speculated that the culprit was an additional outfit, which is unlocked after linking Steam and PlayStation Network accounts (in this case, fortunately, the regional lock was removed before the release).

Now everything indicates that Sony has finally come to its senses and started to lift the regional restriction. The company didn't officially announce this, but the changes it made were noticed by players in the Steam database. So far, they have included games:

  1. God of War Ragnarok;
  2. Helldivers 2;
  3. Marvel's Spider-Man 2;
  4. The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

Let's hope this means that Sony's regional restrictions for PC versions are a thing of the past. It's worth mentioning the release of Days Gone Remastered two months ago, which is also free of those limitations on PC. So we are counting on this being a permanent change in the company's publishing strategy.
