Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Vanishes From Russian PSN

Sony has withdrawn Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the Russian version of PlayStation Store. It seems that players in Russia will have to do without it.

Beta-tests are proceeding at full speed, but players in Russia will not be able to check out the new Call of Duty.

The closed beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is on since yesterday and from tomorrow the tests will be available to almost all PlayStation 4 owners. "Almost", because according to DTF (thanks, Reddit), Russian players cannot join the fun. Not only that, the game has disappeared from the local version of PlayStation Store and the pre-orders has been cancelled. Purchasers have automatically refunded, but they do not seem to be very happy about it. DTF decided to clarify the matter at source and obtained confirmation from Sony that the new isnstallment of the Call of Duty series would not be sold on Russian PlayStation Network.

The Russian media didn't like the depiction of White Helmets in the new Call of Duty.

According to the website, the information is not a complete surprise. It has already been noticed before that no Russian store offered the option to pre-order the game, even though there were less than two months left before the official launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It is also easy to find the cause of this state of affairs. The first trailerof the game was met with strong criticism in the Russian media, which was due to the way the Syrian Civil Defence was presented. The members of the voluntary civil militia, known as the White Helmets, have been repeatedly discredited by the media in Russia, probably in retaliation for being accused by the SOC of supporting terrorists in Syria. Meanwhile, the video released by Activision presented people from that organization in a positive light, which apparently did not meet with approval.

Russian players can still purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Microsoft Store and Battle.net. However, statements obtained by DTF from local representatives of both platforms suggest that the game may be completely withdrawn from sale in Russia. The title will debut on October 25 on Pc, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
