CD Projekt Officially Acquires Digital Scapes

CD Projekt finalizes the acquisition of Digital Scapes studio from Canada. The Polish developer responsible for The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 is opening its studio in Vancouver.

CD Projekt begins international expansion. The Polish developer and publisher finalizes the acquisition of the Canadian studio Digital Scapes. The initial declaration of opening a branch in Vancouver was announced back in March, this year. Today, the completion of the transaction was confirmed on the Twitter profile of investor relations of the CD Projekt group.

CD Projekt RED Vancouver officially joins the development teams in Krakow, Warsaw and Wroclaw. This is not the Canadian studio's first contact with the Polish game developer. Digital Scapes has worked with the devs since 2018 on the development of Cyberpunk 2077, which was clearly stated by Pawel Zawodny, lead producer at CD Projekt RED:

"The well-known Digital Scapes team is our trusted partner. For three years we have been closely working together, and we trust them completely. Digital Scapes have put in a great deal of work during the making of Cyberpunk 2077, assisting with the development of the game and optimizing its various features. In addition to contributing to our projects, the new team will help us perfect our technologies and will broaden our competencies in this respect."

Digital Scapes was founded in 2012 and brings together many experienced developers from BioWare, Relic, or Radical Entertainment. It specializes in animation, programming, and multiplayer game design, among other things. Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt, doesn't hide his satisfaction with the finalization of the acquisition of the Canadian company:

"We believe that the hugely talented Digital Scapes crew is the perfect foundation upon which to build a wider CD PROJEKT RED Vancouver team."

CD Projekt RED continues to focus on patching and improving the technical condition of Cyberpunk 2077. Fans of the studio's latest game had briefly hoped that the first of the announced DLCs for CP2077 will be released soon. It was a reaction to the advertisement talking about "the biggest update so far", but CD Projekt RED dispelled the doubts, clarifying it was just an advertisement for patch 1.2.

There are reasons to be happy, however, as the release of The Witcher: Monster Slayer is fast approaching. It's a mobile game which resembles the popular Pokemon GO. The players can pre-register for the game from early July. It will launch on Android and iOS phones on July 21.

Additionally, WitcherCon, an event organized jointly by CD Projekt RED and Netflix, will be held on July 9. According to the announcement on the official website of the event, it's going to be "a global celebration of all things Witcher". The organizers cut off all speculations by informing that no new Witcher games will be announced during WitcherCon.
