EVE Online Just Witnessed Biggest PvP Battle in History

Today, EVE Online witnessed the biggest battle between users in the history of video games. Almost 9 thousand people participated in it, and the battle itself lasted 14 hours. Even this did not end the war between the two factions.

The community focuse around the online game EVE Online never ceases to amaze. Recent days have shown that the start of a huge, devastating and extremely expensive war is just the beginning for its members. This time The Empire and PAPI alliance fought the biggest PvP battle in video game history.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. A war between one of the most powerful factions in the game, The Empire and PAPI alliance, is taking place in EVE Online;
  2. Both groups have recently fought a battle with the largest number of users in the history of video games.
  3. The battle lasted about 14 hours and involved 8825 players.

World War Bee 2 was started by a user named Villy, who felt betrayed by his companions. 5 years ago he was a fleet commander of The Empire, one of the more powerful factions in the game, but for personal reasons he had to take a break from playing. When he returned, he learned that he was no longer needed. So he found new allies and for a long time he was building his position to finally become a leader of PAPI, an alliance of several smaller groups. Then, he started a war, whose aim is to wipe out The Empire and its leader - Alex "The Mittani" Gianturco (you can read more about the conflict here).

A battle that no game has seen before

The battle started with PAPI carrying out an attack on Delve, opponents main HQ and the most important region in EVE Online. Villy's allies have brought two Keepstar-class space citadels to the battlefield, which are the in-game equivalent of Star Wars' Death Star. However, even such a powerful force had to yield before perfectly matched tactics. After all, one of the most powerful groups in EVE Online wasn't going to just lay down and die.

The first citadel of The Empire was dealt with surprisingly quickly, but the second Keepstar proved to be a problem. Asher Elias, the fleet commander, surprised the enemy with an unusual strategy. It was based, among other things, on sending 500 stealth bombers into the battle, which were harassing the citadel in waves. Protected by the camouflage systemm they were nigh unstoppable. As soon as PAPI found a way to deal with them, dreadnoughts joined the battle, whose only mission was to inflict as much damage as possible before being destroyed by the enemy. It was Asher's command that decided The Empire's victory. Thanks to the quick reactions of the fleet commander, the second Keepstar also succumbed, and PAPI was temporarily driven out of Delve.

Impressive stats

The battle lasted about 14 hours, and 8,825 players took part in it. They operated as many as 11,258 accounts, of which 6,557 units participated in the battle at the peak moment. This impressive commitment helped break two records: the total number of players taking part in a PvP battle and the total number of participants fighting at the same time.

This battle was won by The Empire, but it came with huge losses that can be converted to as much as 1.5 trillion ISK (internal currency). This is 3 times more than the lossed of PAPI alliance. Many of the participants lost their ships, which costed them more than one full paycheck. However, the war is still going on and it will certainly not end until one of the parties gives in.
