FFVII Remake Won't Use the Full Power of PS5 Until Next Installment

In an interview with Japanese website Famitsu, director of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tetsuya Nomura, stated that only the second part of the game will fully exploit the technological potential of PlayStation 5.

During its latest State of Play presentation, Sony announced that the first installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming to PlayStation 5 in an enhanced version, subtitled Intergrade. The version for the 9th-gen console will include improved graphics, a photo mode and support for haptic vibrations, among other things. However, the game's director Tetsuya Nomura in an interview with Japanese website Famitsu said that the full capabilities of the new console will be used only in the next part of the game (via VideoGamesChronicle).

The photo mode will be much simpler than in Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts III, especially the Re:Mind expansion. In the enhanced FF VII, we won't be able to change a character's pose or facial expression, but the option to take screenshots will be available at almost any point in the game.

As for the haptic vibrations and surround audio, according to the developer they will only be partially used in the upcoming upgrade. Their full potential will show only in the second installment, which is currently under development. Words of the Japanese developer correspond with what was said a few months ago by the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan.

Nomura also confirmed what he said in an earlier interview for Video Games Chronicle, that he resigned from his role as director of the next installment of FF VII Remake, because he took the position of creative director at Square Enix. His new job will be to oversee all Final Fantasy VII projects, especially the two announced mobile games, namely FF VII: The First Soldier and FF VII Ever Crisis.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade will hit PS5 on June 10, 2021, with a free upgrade option for the PlayStation 4 version (the offer does not apply to those who receive the game as part of PlayStation Plus).
