Final Fantasy XIV Sold Out After Square Enix Store Ran Out of Keys

Final Fantasy XIV is growing in popularity. The MMORPG is setting new activity records on Steam, and recently the game sold out in Square Enix store. The success has been partly contributed to by World of Warcraft's problems.

Square Enix's MMORPG has enjoyed a significant surge in popularity recently. It's gotten to the point where the game has sold out on the publisher's digital store. As one Reddit user noted, at one point it was impossible to buy the game on the publisher's website and a waiting line formed. This meant that there was a shortage of pre-generated codes and people were forced to wait. The sudden jump in popularity must have been quite a surprise for the Japanese company, but it seems that the crisis has been solved and you can now buy the title without any problems.

Such a message greeted every eager player who added Square Enix's game to his cart.

Final Fantasy XIV is undoubtedly the story of one of the best comebacks in the gaming industry in recent years. What started as a huge failure is now one of the most popular and best rated MMORPGs. The title is constantly being developed with new expansions. Ahead of the release of the latest DLC, called Endwalker, the game is enjoying another surge in popularity. To such an extent that some players could not enter the server due to overload and creating new characters was impossible.

According to calculations from April this year, Final Fantasy XIV had 22 million registered users, but by the release of the upcoming expansion pack, that number is likely to increase significantly. Square Enix was also pleased to see much higher pre-orders of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker compared to the previous expansion, titled Shadowbringers.

In addition to the game selling out and the great pre-order results, Final Fantasy XIV is also doing great on Steam - it achieved a new activity record this month. 58,000 users played Square Enix's game, and that's on Steam alone. That said, this record will probably be broken in the coming months.

The popularity of the MMORPG is partly related to the many problems of World of Warcraft. Most recently, the departure of Blizzard's most popular streamer, nicknamed "Asmongold," made the headlines.

"Many players have moved on from World of Warcraft to Final Fantasy XIV and now I understand why. The facts are that the best WoW of the last 5 years is the release that came out 15 years ago."

Everyone can try their hand at Final Fantasy XIV also thanks to the free trial, which enables us to play up to level 60, also giving players the Heavensward expansion. All we have to do is register on the game's website.

The announced Endwalker expansion will appear on November 23.
