GeForce RTX 2060 and 2070 Super Reviews

New Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 and 2070 Super GPU are being tested online. Are the new Nvidia GPUs good enough to challenge the competitive AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series?

GeForce RTX Super GPU Reviews.

The first tests of two refreshed Nvidia RTX series GPU have appeared on the web; dubbed as "Super" they are the new versions of the 2060 and 2070 models. Both GPUs will debut on the market on July 9, and it is known that Nvidia is planning to use them to divert attention from Navi / Radeon RX 5700, the new AMD GPUs. Are the improved Turings worth their price? Or maybe it is better to wait for an AMD offer or decide to buy an older model? We already know what the experts think about this.

3D guru

We do think that the GeForce RTX 2060 Super is what the market needs. It is plenty fast for any gaming up-to, say, the Quad HD monitor resolution of 2560x1440. The added benefit is a handful of Tensor cores and the ability to put the RT cores to use. This way, at a relatively safe amount of money (399 USD), you get that very nice shader performance. Look at RT as an extra, try & see what the RayTracing is all about. The GPU that resides inside the RTX 2060 Super is really the RTX 2070 Super GPU that has been cut down a notch. The new 8GB of graphics memory is great as that also widens the memory bus. Looking at it from a competition point of view, the card positions itself against the Vega 64 card and presumably soon the Radeon RX 5700.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Super is a bit more of what I consider that traditional refresh but it also shows very strong shader performance at 499 USD. We can recommend both, the RTX 2060 Super, however, (if priced right) could become NVDIA's new Superstar if the retail price will remain at just the right sweet spot," the review reads.

TechSpot

The RTX 2070 Super is good, it kills off the Radeon VII at its current price and does the same to the RTX 2080. So you’re almost getting $700 performance for $500, almost. There’s also no better deal to be had at this price point and that’s why we need AMD to step it up a notch, or ten.

We're definitely more excited about the RTX 2070 Super's prospects than the 2060 Super. Price to performance the 2060 Super is technically better value, but you expect that with lower end parts. The new 2060 Super is more costly than the original for a small boost in performance, though you do get that extra 2GB of VRAM," reads the review.

Well, folks there you have it, the RTX 2060 SUPER comes in at roughly 14% faster in our testing and the RTX 2070 SUPER comes in just over 13% faster than the RTX 2070 Vanilla in our testing. Of course, some games garner bigger wins than others but at no point do either of them fall behind either of the initially launched variants.

The RTX 2060 SUPER will start at $399 which DOES include the Founders Edition at that price point. This is a fairly good price for the card considering it is right in line with the existing RTX 2070 Vanilla Founders Edition that sells for $599.

The RTX 2070 SUPER shakes things up a bit more by taking what is nearly RTX 2080 Vanilla Founders Edition’s $799 performance and selling it for a starting price of $499 and that too includes the Founders Edition for that price," the review reads.

Super, or maybe not?

Nvidia's products should not be looked at in the same way as completely new designs. These are just a little bit overclocked rehashed models, whose main task is to draw attention away from the competition's offer. We knew in advance what to expect from them in terms of technology, because the architecture of Turing has been on the market for several months now. However, this does not mean that we are dealing with bad products.

The chipsets offer solid performance and in any case perform better than their predecessors. Each of them will allow you to play the latest productions in 1080p and 1440p resolutions (in the latter case, owners of the RTX 2060 Super may be forced to compromise on the level of detail). A stronger variant from time to time will also allow you to play 4K.

The weaker of the new models is quite attractive on paper, because in comparison to the basic 2060, in addition to additional shading units it received two additional gigabytes of RAM, which sometimes is lakcing in the former (especially above 1080p). To get all this we have to pay a lot more. Cost-effectiveness will depend on the preferred resolution. The RTX 2070 Super, which debuts at the same price as its "ordinary" counterpart may also be a juicy treat.

And that's the proverbial fly in the ointment. The density of Nvidia's products on the market is now really high. After the premiere of "Supers", the basic variants of the 2070 and 2080 RTX will probably not be produced any more, but there are still quite a few of them left in the shops, and the regular 2060 will remain on offer also after the premiere of its younger brother. Individual graphics cards usually differ from each other by a few percent in terms of performance and price. In such a situation, the latter aspect, which is strongly influenced by various external factors, will be of key importance. It may turn out that in many cases older RTXs will simply be more cost-effective. This will be verified by market reality, which can only be assessed some time from now - especially since the products with which the new cards are to compete are not yet available.
