God of War Ragnarok With HDMI 2.1 Support; Graphic Modes in Detail

Sony has unveiled all of God of War: Ragnarok's graphics modes available on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5. The right HDMI cable will make a tremendous difference.

Recently we could read about a leak regarding God of War: Ragnarok, which suggested the appearance of as many as four graphic modes in the game on the PlayStation 5 console. Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed that there will be even more of them - as many as six. In addition, the impact of the HDMI cable on the game's frame rate was confirmed. We also learned about the options available on PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles.

PS5 - up to 6 graphic modes

The real spectrum of possibilities will be offered by the latest PS5 console, where players will be able to play in one of six graphic modes.

Performance mode with HDMI 2.0 cable

  • 1440 - 2160p (dynamic resolution), locked 60 frames per second

Performance mode with HDMI 2.1 cable

  • 1440p, above 60 frames per second
  • 1440p, above 60 frames per second (with VRR, or advanced V-Sync option)

Quality mode with HDMI 2.0 cable

  • 2160p (4K), locked 30 frames per second

Quality mode with HDMI 2.1 cable

  • 1800 - 2160p (dynamic resolution), locked 40 frames per second
  • 1800 - 2160p (dynamic resolution), over 40 frames per second (with VRR option)

Having a more expensive HDMI 2.1 cable and an adapted monitor with higher refresh rate will allow for playing in modes above 60 fps. This is a step up from God of War from 2018, which on the PS5 allowe for play in 4K and 60 frames per second.

PS4 and PS4 Ppro - 3 graphic modes

The 8th-gen consoles will support three modes, with a split between the classic PS4 and the Pro version.

PlayStation 4 console

  • 1080p, locked 30 frames per second

PlayStation 4 PRO console

  • 1080 - 1656p (dynamic resolution), over 30 frames per second
  • 1440 - 1656p (dynamic resolution), locked 30 frames per second
