Launching Games on PS5 is Supposed to be as Simple as Watching Netflix

Kotaku editor Jason Schreier reports that launching the game on PlayStation 5 should be as easy as watching Netflix. Sony is said to want to make the players more willing to play short runs, not just when they have plenty of free time.

PS5 like Netflix?

We're already familiar with the detailed specs of both next-gen consoles - PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. On paper, Microsoft's device performs a little better, but we know well that both companies will also try to attract customers with different modern features. Both Xbox and PlayStation are expected to offer, among other things, faster loading time of games. Kotaku''s editor Jason Schreier reports (via GamesRadar+) that in the case of the Japanese console "playing a PS5 game should be as easy as Netflix".

"One of the pitches been making to developers is 'playing a PS5 game should be as easy as Netflix.' They want to make players feel like they can load up the game immediately and know exactly how much time a given activity is going to take them."

And while that sounds promising, we don't yet know how Sony is going to make the players actually know how much time they need for a particular game. There can be a lot of ideas - from dividing each game into chapters and informing the player how long it takes to get through each of them, to dry information like the next save point in the story or the end of a particular part of the story.

However, comparing the game to Netflix suggests once again something that we have known for some time - selected games will load very quickly, just like on the aforementioned platform (i.e. you choose the title you're interested in and you can practically go straight to the viewing, although in the case of games you should also consider the time needed for installation or download of the latest updates). Over two weeks ago we also learned that Sony is going to bet again on strong, narrative-driven single-player games. PlayStation 5 is set to make its debut this year during the Holiday season.
