After the merger with Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has almost twice as many developer studios as Sony. The Japanese may not like it but they have to respect it.
Acquisition of the holding company Activision Blizzard by Microsoft resulted in the latter taking possession of numerous gaming brands - such as Diablo, Warcraft or Call of Duty - but also a number of talented development studios. If we juxtapose them with the teams that previously came under the wing of the Redmond giant, we find that theit number has increased to 40.
Both the number and the names behind it must be impressive even - or perhaps especially? - for the rival Sony. After all, the PlayStation Studios family consists of "only" 23 teams.
Below you can check out which development studios are currently owned by Microsoft and Sony. Some of them can be found in the following infographic by Reddit GerardKrab. However, it is not complete - 7 teams are missing: 4 from Activision Blizzard and 3 from PlayStation Studios.
Therefore, I have posted the complete list below it. By clicking on the name of a particular studio, you will find out what games it has made so far or is currently developing. In case we do not have a particular company in the database, you will find additional information about it in parentheses next to its name.
If there is any conclusion to be drawn from this compilation, it is probably that thanks to many years of cooperation, Sony has given rise to several excellent studios. I am referring here to Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games or Polyphony Digital. Microsoft, meanwhile, bought out its currently strongest teams after they had already achieved global success.
There are also a few fun facts thrown in. For example: Crash Bandicoot, originally a Sony brand, is now owned by the Redmond giant, while Bungie, which launched Microsoft's Halo series, is now under the Sony umbrella... but you probably already know that.
