Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Becomes a Steam Bestseller

Last week's biggest Steam bestseller was Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, dethroning Resident Evil Village. Also Subnautica: Below Zero recorded a successful debut.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. A brilliant debut of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, successful launch of Subnautica: Below Zero;
  2. High sales Resident Evil Village;
  3. High pre-order sales bode well for Biomutant and the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion.

As every Monday Valve released a list of last week's biggest bestsellers on Steam (by revenue). There were a lot of interesting changes in the list.

Resident Evil Village, the leader in the previous list, was dethroned by Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. The refreshed trilogy of classic RPGs from BioWare not only turned out to be a commercial hit, but also met with warm reception. Right after its debut, the game's reception was categorized by Steam as "mixed", which meant that less than 70% of user reviews were positive. However, the situation quickly began to improve and currently 83% of players express positive opinions about the set.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition also has impressive activity figures. At the hottest moment of the weekend, the game was played by 59,817 users simultaneously on Steam. This is the best result for a BioWare game in history and the second highest for a game released by Electronic Arts (a more impressive record can be boasted only by Apex Legends).

The premiere of the full version of Subnautica: Below Zero was also a success, ending up on spot number five. A successful sales debut was also recorded by Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Earlier, it's pre-orders appeared in the list. However, the problem may be the game's lifetime. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, less than 5 thousand people played it on Steam. The record on the premiere day was over 11 thousand. And it was set on Monday. The fact that during the first weekend after the release the game did not even come close to this result should worry the creators.

Doom Eternal returned to the top ten thanks to an attractive special offer which reduced the price of the deluxe edition by 67%. It is also worth noting the appearance of Biomutant and Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker in the list as pre-orders, which bodes well for the future of both games, especially since the first one will be released only in a week, and the second - at the end of the year.

The first notable mods for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has just come out, but the game is already receiving first notable modifications. Currently, the two most popular projects are Better Camera (Higher FOV) and Trilogy Save Editor. The former enables us to increase FOV (up to FOV 100). The latter is an open-source tool that enables you to edit saved game states.

The original trilogy received a surprisingly large number of modifications given how limited the available modding tools were, so we expect that the case of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be similar.
