Minecraft Snapshot 21w14a Adds Raw Metals

Minecraft players can check out more highlights of the upcoming Caves & Cliffs update. With Snapshot 21w14a, instead of blocks of iron, gold and copper, we will mine raw versions of these metals.

Minecraft received another snapshot, enabling us to test new features planned for the upcoming Caves & Cliffs update. As before, you can check the content of this version in the so-called Java Edition after activating the snapshots in the Installations section. However, remember to make a backup copy of your world or run the snapshot session from a separate folder. Without this you risk losing your creation!

The main attraction of Snapshot 21w14a is the addition of raw versions of selected metals: gold, copper and iron. The change is supposed to solve the problem of cluttering our inventory with ore, which appeared after the introduction of a new type of rock in the beta version of Minecraft - Deepslate. Blocks of metal extracted from it were treated as a different type and put aside separately, which quickly depleted our inventory space. Now, we can get the same raw version of gold, copper or iron from both Deepslate and normal rock, but you can still melt them. What's more, the Fortune spell works on this type of ores, which enables us to increase the extraction of the metals we're interested in.

In addition to this and the introduction of the option to wax fully oxidized copper blocks, 21w14a is mainly about improvements. However, they are few, especially in comparison with the previous snapshot. The full list of changes can be found on the official website. MEanwhile, the Caves & Cliffs update is expected to be released in the summer.
