It's been a long time since the last material from the fourth installment of the iconic Serious Sam series was published. Today, the devs from Croteam revealed a short teaser that announces a more extensive presentation. They kept their word and Devolver Digital posted a handful of videos presenting the gameplay of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass with dev comments. The release date of the title was also revealed, although only an approximate one. The fourth installment will launch in August on Steam and Google Stadia. The latter bought a temporary exclusivity for the title, which will translate into a later release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. On these platforms, the new Serious Sam will not be released until 2021 (via Kotaku).
The materials reveal a lot about the game. The devs wanted to preserve the classic, arcade, and, last but not least, the cheesy but awesome style for which the series is known. You won't find here any cover or companions known from modern shooters, nothing but clean, unchained battles against hordes of enemies. Although it would be more appropriate to talk about armies, thanks to the Legion system. Croteam's ambition was to throw up to 10,000 enemies at the player at once, but in the end, they managed to increase that number significantly. Clashes with the crowds of enemies will be facilitated by new weapons, although the devs note that Serious Sam 4 will be quite a challenge. The game will enable us to face the opposition in the company of other players in the online co-op mode, including additional missions with increased difficulty level.
The devs decided to celebrate the breaking of almost two-year period of silence by launching a sale on Steam. Until May 27, Devolver Digital will enable us to buy all Serious Sam game at reduced price. This takes into account both the main installments of the series as well as VR productions and works of independent artists. Almost all of them have been discounted by at least 80%, and Serious Sam 3: BFEs can be purchased 90% cheaper.
