No Man's Sky Devs: „We're Working on a Big, Ambitious Game”

Sean Murray from Hello Games admitted that his team is working on a new project. It's a production like No Man's Sky, but not a continuation of the team's previous „big, ambitious” work.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Hello Games is working on an unannounced project;
  2. It is supposed to be 'big and ambitious' like No Man's Sky, although it won't be a sequel;
  3. But we don't know anything more about it at the moment and it's not likely that Sean Murray will start telling us about it soon.

Polygon's editorial team has asked Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games, a few questions. The developer shared information about the current structure of his team and what its individual 'cells' are working on, and most importantly, he revealed that part of his team is currently developing a completely new project. However, we don't know much about this mysterious game, except that it will be a 'big and ambitious game like No Man's Sky'; it should be noted that he doesn't mean a sequel of this cosmic sandbox, but a completely new project.

The project itself is currently in an early phase of development. Moreover, not all members of Hello Games are working on it. The team consists of 26 developers and while three of them have so far created the recently released The Last Campfire, others have divided into two groups, one of which has focused on working on new content for No Man's Sky while the other has focused on preparing the discussed game.

No Man's Sky wasn't realizing its potential on the day of launch. But the subsequent patches introduced new content and improved the situation.

So when will Murray tell us more about his new work? Well, remembering how the players reacted to the news that many things they were told about would be missing in No Man's Sky (they reacted badly... to put it mildly), the dev apparently doesn't intend to rush with spectacular promises. By the way, he mentioned that even if he could turn back time, he would have no idea what he should have acted years ago.

The reason for this is that, in his opinion, the process of creating such a great project and simultaneously telling the whole world about it resembles a flight towards the Sun with a rocket built on the way. Another thing is that, as he said himself, if No Man's Sky hadn't gained such media hype before the release, many devoted fans of the game might never have heard of it.

It seems that we won't hear any solid information about the new Hello Games project until it takes real shape. Let's hope that this time Murray will become 'very outspoken' only when at least most of the most important elements of his next ambitious work are already in place.
