On September 1 These Ubisoft Games Will Lose Online Features and DLCs - Reminder

The day after tomorrow, Ubisoft will disable multiplayer mode in a number of high-profile games, such as Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Anno 2070, Far Cry 3 and Silent Hunter 5.

On September 1, Ubisoft will disable network features in more than a dozen games. So you have one last chance to play co-op in, for example, Far Cry 3 or the excellent PvP mode in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The loss of multiplayer features in these two items makes it all the more annoying to the fans, since in their case it is the players' computers that act as servers. The publisher's servers store only data on gameplay progress. Ubisoft's decision is therefore difficult to explain in terms of actual costs.

What's worse, termination of support for these games will not only deprive them of multiplayer, but on PC will result in the loss of the ability to use some of the DLCs. In some cases, this even includes expansions that were not used in multiplayer.

Anno 2070 will be spared

Among the games that will lose network features was Anno 2070. In July, however, Ubisoft's branch located in Mainz announced that it was working on an update that would switch this game to the new network infrastructure and enables the users to continue playing.

As of yet, it is unclear when this patch will be released, but in the latest commentary (dated August 19), the developers assured that work on the project is going well and the update should be released soon.

The situation of some games on Steam is also unclear. Some time ago several of them were pulled from sale on this service, despite the fact that their single player modes would remain active after September 1. Since then, purchase options have been restored for Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD and Anno 2070. On the other hand, you still can't buy Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic.
