Over 90% of Windows 10 Users Use Old Version of the System

It turns out that the May update of Windows 10 (build 2004) has reached a small number of users. Most of them still use older versions of Microsoft's system from last year.

May's update of Windows 10 has so far reached a small number of computers

In May, Microsoft released a summary update, which upgrades the version of Windows 10 (so-called build) to number 2004. However, according to data published by AdDuplex, only 7% of users have updated their system. Most people still use the build from a year ago, that is 1903 from May 2019.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • The May update for Windows 10 is still not very popular, with about 7% of users having installed it;
  • Windows 10 build 2004 includes a GPU Schedule (HAGS) function to improve game performance.

The data comes from a sample of nearly 150,000 computers. They were obtained thanks to Windows store applications. So while this is not complete data, it can be assumed that it corresponds to the actual situation with considerable accuracy. Microsoft did not provide official data on this subject.

There may be many reasons for this, but two are truly important. First, Microsoft does not make the update available to everyone at the same time. Instead, it does so in waves. Users' PCs can be checked for updates. When Windows Update finds out that a patch can be installed on a given device, it will display a notification.

The second reason may be the reluctance of users to install patches for Windows 10. Many of them contained quite serious bugs, such as the recently described problems with printing. Such events have undermined confidence in Microsoft. Therefore, many people may postpone updating or even look for ways to permanently disable Windows Update for fear of new bugs.

It is worth keeping in mind that the May update for Windows 10 brings improved performance in some games, as we have written some time ago. The patch introduces an innovative feature called GPU Scheduling, which changes the way our computer manages its operating memory. However, there are still a lot of bugs in the patch, which is probably the reason it is not available to most users.

How to manually install the Windows 10 update

Here is some advice for the impatient and brave people who have not yet received an automatic update. It is possible to install it manually. Please go to Microsoft's website and click here. The Windows Installation Assistant downloaded in this way will guide us through the process of manual installation.
