Polish Silent Hill 2 Remake With Radical Change, Leaked Footage Suggests

Footage from an early version of the Silent Hill 2 remake has leaked online, suggesting a major change in gameplay.

Some interesting materials, supposedly coming from the officially unannounced remake of Silent Hill 2 from Polish studio Bloober Team, have surfaced on the web.

  1. The screenshots are poor quality and low resolution, but they look convincing. After their publication on the studio's official Twitter, a post appeared containing only one word "horror," which can be interpreted as the developers winking at the fans.
  2. According to well-informed insiders, the images are quite old - they come from an early demo that Bloober Team developed on its own in order to convince Konami to hire them to make the remake.
  3. The Japanese publisher was supposed to collect such proposals in 2018, and the company liked the demo prepared by Poles so much that the studio was engaged to develop it.
  4. What draws attention to the images is the change in perspective. In the original, we viewed events mainly from cameras placed in static locations on the map. The remake seems to present the currently popular style, in which the camera is placed behind the character's back and follows.
  5. It should be noted that according to these rumors, the footage comes from an old demo prepared independently by Bloober Team. So it is possible that after the studio was hired by Konami, the concept of the remake changed and the old camera system was restored. However, the system seen in the images dominates in the industry nowadays, and it worked very well in the popular remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, so its use in the refreshed version of Silent Hill 2 would come as no surprise.

The situation is interesting because Bloober Team is a rare case of a devteam that has created a contemporary game with a more old-school camera style. This is how the action is shown in last year's The Medium, where this solution worked very well. Thus, the Polish team should have no problem repeating it in the remake of Silent Hill 2if that's what the owners from Konami wish.

Recall that the Japanese publisher is expected to announce a new project from a major brand at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which will be held on September 15-18. Insiders say it will be a collection of first three remastered installments of Metal Gear Solid. The remake of Silent Hill 2 is expected to be revealed at a more international event, such as September's PlayStation State of Play or December's The Game Awards.
