Sony Increases Production of PS5 Due to Huge Interest

The interest in the PS5 is said to be so big that Sony had to double the production of consoles to meet the demand.

Will sales of PS5 exceed Sony's expectations?

In the spring, Sony initially assumed that it would produce only about 6 million copies of the PS5 console for release, which was to be due to the relatively high price and the coronavirus pandemic. This is not a shockingly high number, especially considering that the PS4 has sold 7.5 million copies in first six months after its release. As reported by Bloomberg, these were very underestimated forecasts. In June, the PS5 production lines were launched, which is expected to translate into 10 million consoles on the market by the end of 2020.

Recent reports also suggest that, despite increased production, some of the consoles may not be delivered for the later, hot holiday season for logistical reasons, with the consequence that the number of PS5s may be limited and we will have to hurry to purchase our copy of the device. Why is there so much interest in PlayStation 5? The main reason for this is that the pandemic is increasing the hunger for new releases among gamers spending more time at home and playing.

In addition, Sony suggested some time ago that for the launch of the PS5 will need about 10 million DualSense pads, so it can be safely assumed that this number will also increase.

The first batch of PlayStation 5 consoles (about 5 million units) is to be delivered to the stores for the launch, and the next one (about 5 million more) is to be delivered regularly by the end of the year. If, however, the rumors of logistical problems resulting from shipping from China, which takes a lot of time, are confirmed, two solutions are envisaged: introducing some of these consoles for sale next year or using a more expensive but faster air delivery so that PS5 can be delivered under as many Christmas trees as possible during the holiday season.
