Starfield With In-game Purchases Doesn't Have to be Bad

Starfield is to offer in-game purchases. Does this mean we're in for another single-player game with microtransactions? Not necessarily.

Less than two months ago we informed that Starfield was classified as an mature audience game in Australia due to the drug use, vulgarity, strong violence and mild nudity present in it. Now this age rating has been confirmed by the ESRB - In turn, next to the 17+ designation, it states that Starfield will offer "in-game purchases."

However, this does not necessarily imply microtransactions per se - though of course it could. This type of information often appears with games that receive:

  1. paid expansions (given the history of individual works of Bethesda, they are very likely);
  2. minor DLCs (same as above.);
  3. other content, even free [Skyrim i Fallout 4 offered Creation Club, where players could download fan-made content for free].

It can therefore be expected that Starfield will receive major expansions, small DLCs or a creation club - or all of the above. Microtransactions are not out of the question, of course, but they don't seem certain at this point either.

Perhaps we'll learn a little more about this at the Starfield Direct show, scheduled for June 11, 2023. The game, meanwhile, is expected to debut on September 6 on PC and XSX/S.
